The Weight Issue Continues...

I'm on my second week of working out and attemping to eat right. Attempting...

I go everyday to workout and I'm loving it! It gives me something to do during the day. Chicky gets a chance to play with other kids. Makes me accountable to going tothe gym when I pay in advance for the childcare.

But am I the only one who can't see the results? Everyone has mentioned that I look like I've lost some weight, but it's not showing on the scale. I know, muscle weighs more than fat and all that, but I'm so used to jumping onthe scale and seeing some results.

So I've now started to go back to the old faithful trick of putting on my goal jeans and see how close I'm getting!

That's right! I've ditched the scale! I'm so tired of having the ball and chain dragging me to check my weight every morning or before bed. Or sometimes twice in a day. That's not healthy for me. It's just making it worse. Being an emotional eater, when that scale doesn't show the work I've done, I want to stuff my face. I wish I could just see something.

I wish I wasn't so hard on myself to the point of screwing up all that hard work! You have to undersand here, I'm not a big "I'm OK in new surroundings" kind of girl. I'm personally terrified of new scenes and places. So to go to the gym or dance class is a BIG step for me.

I have no idea how to control my eating. I think that's my biggest problem, here. I love food and enjoy it in it's many forms. Calorie control sucks! Diets blow! 5 meals a day, worked but I'm finding it really hard right now, but like any new habit I need to stick with it. I might try it again.

Any new ideas are appreciated here.

we dont even own a scale...i refuse to torture myself with one.

that is great you have hit the gym! I am too nervous too, honestly. I think I might have anxiety if I ever went..Id feel like everyone was staring at me...Im that type of person..thats my excuse. Haha.

luckily my sister is moving out here to stay with me while the husband is deployed, and she just had a baby, and wants to get teh weight off...so we will start some sort of work out regiment.

I know a lot of people say to eat a fruit or chew gum when you get craving for something sweet.

Hi Vanessa! My name is April & I just started following your blog and can totally relate! I'm also a mil-wife and understand how difficult it can be to always put yourself out there. Good for you for finding a way to get yourself to the gym by taking your little one! :) Re: the scale and weight loss...what kind of workouts/exercise are you doing? Purely cardio or some weight lifting too? Have you ever heard of P90X or ChaLEAN Extreme? I did P90X last summer and am on my second wk of ChaLEAN Extreme. No offense to Tony Horton, but I prefer Chalene. The program has been INCREDIBLE so far. I love FEELING my workouts the next day :) Each day's workout is only 30-50min long - so totally doable. AND, it comes wit a 'Fab Burning Food Guide' with recipes for food I actually WANT to eat. So, it basically would take the guesswork out of the 5 meals dilemma you have, plus, with incorporating weights in to your routine you'd be sizzling through more fat. Just an idea.
Bottom line, you have to find something that YOU ENJOY and that works for YOU! So whether that's at the gym, in a class, or doing home workouts, find what you love and stick to it! Let me know if you have any questions about Chalene's workouts or Beachbody! I'd love to help you find something YOU LOVE...after all, fitness should be FUN, right??
IF you'd like, you can email me at: travelintoto@yahoo.com & we can talk some more. I'm also on FB: April Smith Devan.
Best wishes in your journey. And thank you for being a damn strong woman and supporting your husband in his military career! May God bless!!

I wish I said some ideas for you. I have never been very good at portion control...I tend to starve rather than do it properly. The five small meals a day sounds like a good idea though! Keep up the good work, it takes a lot of willpower to get to the gym or class everyday!! You're doing great!

my piece of advice is for you to go on the scale once a week, that way you will see the results clearly. Always try to do it after going to the bath and first thing in the morning (as long as the kids allow you too)

Another thing is to cut out (not cut back) on anything with flour on it, that works marvells

And the last thing: drink lots and lots of water so your body can clean itself

Thank you for the advice and support ladies!!
Vanessa- Obrigada!!

jessicajane- having someone there for support is a great motivator. It's kind of hard when I'm alone, but I now have some girls who have been going to the aerobic classes for a while now encouraging me to continue. I chew gum when I have a sweet craving!

April- I have all the Turbo Jam DVDs and the ChaLEAN Extreme DVDs but I need accountability, so I'm starting off with the classes because I need to sign my kids up for the daycare in advance, so I have no excuses. Once I get into the swing of things I want to add Chalene back into my life. My ultimate goal (check my bucket list post) is to become a Turbo Kick instructor and be able to attend one of the Turbo Kick Boot Camps in 2011. I've wanted to try P90X but I've been told by my husband not to purchase another workout anything until I've completed one whole program first. He's right!

Full Nelson- Hope you are feeling well, no morning sickness yet right?
I think the 5 small meals are my best bet.

Paula-As of right now I mentally need to get off the scale. I might bring it back out when I can leave the scale alone. I like the idea of cutting out things with flour, however, I find it hard to cut out things, it sends me into a food binge. I'm a water fanatic! I got rid of all fruit juices and pops, I stopped drinking my calories (except for the protein shake after a workout). Water is my best friend!

Thanks guys!

Hey Vanessa.
I hear ya about the weight battle. I come from a large family, am emotional eater, I eat when I'm bored (which sucks where I have a low key, sit down job) and have an oral fixation to boot.
Living in the city has created a fear of going out alone but I dislike walking with others (because they wanna talk, and I get winded easily). But money's tight, so a gym membership seems out of the question.
I've started trying to eat healthy, but the chips or the McDonalds always seem to tempt me.
What are your tips? Perhaps we could help each other?
