Hello Monday!!!
We all want to feed our kids healthy foods and Momversation poses the question, would you give your kids Twinkies for breakfast?
A new study of fifty six breakfast cereal show that some of the worst cereals have 24 to 26 percent sugar by weight. Seriously?! And even some of the cereals we considered the "better cereal" have twelve grams of sugar!!!
When I was growing up the ONLY time we would get the sugar cereals was during our birthday as that special treat. I don't know why I didn't do that either. My kids eat Frosted Flakes, Fruit Loops and other cereals and I regret it to this day! I was aware of the sugar content of the cereals and I got them only to get them to eat something at breakfast. Trying to get rid of them is a battle in itself! I was able to get rid of the Lucky Charms, mainly because I couldn't bare to toss half the cereal out because they picked the marshmallows out.
The study doesn't surprise me at all. It's just yet another study to make me feel like I'm a crappy mom making crappy food choices for my kids. So thanks study!
With the new food changes we are making in the house the cereal will eventually go, but until then...
Can someone make a good tasting cereal that doesn't have as much sugar in it?
